As everyone is racing to make vision boards, setting resolutions and becoming the best ‘new’ version of themselves, lets take a minute and press pause. Reflect on what you really want to achieve and then start paving the path needed to achieve those set goals. Just over a year ago I wrote it out in my planner, that I wanted to find a job in Dubai to see what this city has to offer. I didn’t know what I wanted but my intention was to find work that kept my purpose of making a difference alive. I’d be lying if I said that it was an easy road. Truth is I wanted to give up many times when doors weren’t opening or things weren’t moving. Through all this my coach (yes coaches need coaches too!) would always say just keep going, do it for the right reasons, change your path as you progress but just don’t give up because you’ll blink and it will all happen. And honestly thats exactly what happened. One cup of coffee and an honest conversation led me to finding a job that allows me to practice everything that I am passionate about and more. I get to work with a community of likeminded and equally passionate human beings, who strive to make a difference and be better every single day. Here are some of my learnings when it comes to setting goals: Always have a clear intention: Intention truly is everything and not in a romanticized manner. The why behind what we do is what drives us forward. When we are intentional with our goals and have a clear purpose we just show up better, its that simple. Set backs are bound to happen: Things rarely go as planned and honestly I’ve come to learn that we may not know it then, but setbacks allow us to reassess the situation and change lanes if needed. It is important to let the overwhelming rush of emotions pass when things don’t go our way, to take a step back and look at the big picture with a clear mind. Be consistent, practice discipline and stay grounded: Having structure and learning to navigate by being disciplined and consistent is really the key to everything. When we put in that hard work and keep striving to be just a little better every single day, then thats all that really matters. Keep your feet on the ground, remember your why, stay humble and find joy in every small win. If you can learn to embrace this mindset then there is no goal that you cannot achieve. Surround yourself with pure gold: We truly are the sum of the five people we spend the most time with. So hold on to the people who will bring out the best in you, those that will celebrate your wins, allow you to lean on them when you face losses and most importantly those that will hold a mirror to your face in times when you loose your sense of self. I have said it before and ill say it again, I would not be who I am or where I am without my tribe of humans by my side.
